
My Approach
I started my career in health systems research before obtaining my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families who are coping with a history of abuse. My previous experience involved working with individuals with addictions and trauma. I am a Social Work PhD student at the University of Toronto.
I recognize that past hurt and it's ongoing effects can look different to different people and I hope to make sure that my services are tailored to your needs. I have done training in in a number of different modalities, including CBT, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Didactic Developmental Practice, Emotion Focused Therapy and advance training in trauma processing, sexual behaviours, and group work.

I have presented at conferences in Canada and internationally and am published in the areas of group work practice and systems research. I am a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. As well I have been a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), Association for the Treatment for Sexual Abusers (ATSA), and International Association of Social Work with Groups (IASWG).

I offer an eclectic and needs-based approach. I like to spend some time getting to know you and listening to what brought you to therapy. We can then develop a collaborative approach to best to help you. I work with individuals and their families in an open and friendly way and I look forward to meeting you.

Therapy
Therapy can be an intimidating word for many, however one does not need to be in crisis or at the end of the rope before the seek clinical services. Research and lived experiences have shown that talking to a trained professional about life's difficulties can result in a lessoning of life's burdens and a release of difficult feelings.
Trauma
Trauma is considered both the initial events or event that is deeply distressing, as well as its ongoing effects on mental health. Sometimes, people are able to walk away from traumatic events without ongoing effects, but for others, memories, nightmares, dissociation, and unresolved feelings can make every day life difficult. Examples of events that can cause trauma include physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, bullying, an unexpected accident, or a life threatening illness. Trauma can also occur by witnessing an individual experience a traumatic event.
